The Story of a Dreamer Committed to Bettering the World

Fahed Al Essa is a dreamer, innovator, and achiever.  Born and raised in Kuwait, his first exposure to America was under difficult circumstances. During the Gulf War, his family was displaced and sought refuge in California. Many years later he would return to that state under vastly different circumstances in pursuit of an entrepreneurial dream. 

Essa has always enjoyed and prioritized learning, particularly in areas where science can improve people’s lives. After getting his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in molecular biology, he obtained a master’s degree in biotechnology with the ambitious aim of curing cancer.  It was during this time, he began conducting cancer research as an intern at the Wistar Institute. Essa, now later reflects on this experience noting “I was naïve, it wasn’t that easy [to cure cancer], but the research I was doing was part of a lab that contributed to the development of the T-cell therapy, which is the most novel way of treating cancer today”. After spending time in the life sciences branch of healthcare, Essa began to note the opportunities in the provider realm. 

He created a technology company back in Kuwait that would shift Kuwait’s healthcare facilities from paper to electronic means, a move that the healthcare world has since whole-heartedly embraced and now the largest public hospital in Kuwait boasts of its fully electronic operation. However, Essa was slightly ahead of this movement and was unable to gain traction. Many entrepreneurs cite that failing was their best learning experience, and Essa is no different, seeing the lessons and opportunities that stemmed from the experience. A private hospital, Taiba, was excited about his ideas and Essa was hired to the Director of Strategy. During his tenure at Taiba, he designed and implemented the first hybrid operating room in Kuwait, a form that many hospitals have since adopted. 

One of the aspects that strike people the most about Essa is his ardent belief that healthcare should be patient-centric and anyone working in the industry needs to remember that they are treating human beings.  By understanding and empathizing with patients, the business can build the right solutions and profits will follow. 

Essa’s latest venture after completing his MBA and MPH at UC Berkeley is Dala Wellness, a personalized wellness program with a multivitamin subscription focused on patients with chronic pain. The program is based on clinical evidence and engages chronic pain specialists, physical therapists, mindfulness experts, and nutritionists to complement traditional medicine and help patients take back control of their lives. For Dala, healing comes by bridging the mind, body, and soul. It is initially targeting patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, fibromyalgia, crest, and ankylosing spondylosis. His app stands in contrast to traditional healthcare models, treating patients like a partner and valuing their voice. As Essa states “we are also putting the patient in the center and building around them. As such everything we provide them is patient ideated, patient-driven, patient-centered and makes the patient’s life easier”.  He has backed this claim up with extensive market research, interviewing over 50 patients as the app continues in development. 

The mindset of valuing dialogues and incorporating the views of others comes naturally to Essa. He believes that many of the failures of healthcare stem from our own opinions and biases: we only see the world from our point of view. As a result, in Dala he is looking to address patient issues from many different angles, which leads to creative, pragmatic solutions. 

Many of us could learn from Essa’s student attitude and commitment to bettering humanity. For others looking to follow in his footsteps he counsels us to invest in providing the best customer experience and learning from the negative experiences. When it comes to facing adversity, he notes, “We must learn from it, move on and know there are better times around the corner. Be optimistic and trust people until they prove you wrong. Be confident about your future and in everyone else’s”.  Brave comments from a brave man.

How A Young Entrepreneur Followed In The Footsteps of His Father to Find His Own Success

Monetizing a YouTube channel with ad revenue can be easy once the subscriber count starts to hit 6 figures. Advertisers love putting paid promotion on channels of YouTubers who have a loyal, unique audience that all have common interests. Christoph Filgertshofer, after working relentlessly to build his following to 200k subscribers, decided to go a completely different route with monetization. Having grown up surrounded by entrepreneurship, he decided to get a start in eCommerce.

Growing up in Germany, Christoph’s father would always share his exciting stories as an entrepreneur. His dad would share stories of his practice and recruiting clients with him at a young age, and the lessons he learned from these stories stuck with him throughout his childhood and teenage years. By the time he was old enough to become further immersed in entrepreneurship, Christoph started hustling flipping Pokemon cards and selling newspapers as young as 14 years old. He saw all of his friends being handed iPods from their parents, and made a pact with himself to make enough money on his own to save up for one.

With all of this experience at such a young age, it was no surprise that Christoph had such an interest in selling products online and working for himself. Even with all of the success he would wind up experiencing, he still had his shortcomings off the bat as he did not have enough experience. His first store flopped, but he worked tirelessly to learn the craft and perfect his online store and market it correctly. Similar to his YouTube experience, his hard work would pay off in a major way as he soon saw himself generating 5 figures of revenue in one month and scaling it to multiple six figures in revenue. 

Christoph has found that he has come to enjoy his successes now simply because of how much work went into his process. Without failures and setbacks, the success would be taken for granted and would ruin the whole journey for him. Before his story even began, Christoph was inspired by his father as a little kid hearing his stories after he would come home from work. His dad would always share with him how he never grew tired of his work, and always had a new problem to solve to keep him on his toes. Hearing all of this as a kid, Christoph knew the only option for him as a career would be to start his own business and be his own boss as well. 

As a result of all of his hard work, Christoph is rewarded most by the amount of freedom he has on a daily basis. He can work from wherever he wants and can plan a trip today and be gone tomorrow. The ability to do whatever you want, work for yourself, travel, and make a great living has made all of the struggles and setbacks well worth it. And we are sure, that’s not it – there will be more occasions we hear from this young entrepreneur in the future.

Shahid takes pride in himself because he never saw the business world this way. Shahid carved a slice of the industry for himself by being honest and exhibiting integrity. He puts a lot of his time into customer experience and ensures that whatever service they purchase gets delivered with quality.

In addition, shahid’s experience in multiple industries makes him invaluable, over the years he has learned about different aspects of business management, from sales to logistics. A good example of how versatile he is is how he owns a medical clinic without any background in medicine.

Making An Impact

Shahid’s business spans many industries. First off, his business comprised a rehabilitation clinic called Absolute Health Centre, whose aim is to treat chronic to severe pain patients who don’t want to undergo surgery or take organ-damaging medications. They also treat auto-crash victims and sport injury patients. The program created is called “TAPE (The Absolute Patient Experience)” this program is designed to provide clinics an opportunity to treat more of the chronic/severe patients and make a difference in their communities by providing an ultimate patient-centered process, also includes marketing component to hype up clinics and make them a popular and profitable location, because of the success TAPE has seen, the solution will be sold to other clinics globally.

Shahid’s firm also has its roots in other industries such as manufacturing and marketing. Shahid co-founded MyGoTo, an advertising platform for high ticket items such as automotive sales, and real estate. Software development for this program started in 2016 and the platform is expected to launch soon. This platform will provide an income source for people, once they sign up as an advertising agent, they can promote MyGoTo and make money on these high ticket industries as an advertising agent.

So far, Shahid has provided the best experiences to everyone that comes in contact with his businesses. This has been the basis of his success. When you treat people in a good manner and provide an amazing experience, they tend to tell others about you, word of mouth goes a long way.

Moving Further

Shahid future plans to scale his business consists mainly of giving others the opportunity to create wealth for themselves, his group fundamental principle is to help others generate revenue by enlightening them on the topic of entrepreneurship.

Information is hidden at the detriment of upcoming musicians, leading the con artists to profit off them. A good example of this is how attorneys charge hundreds of dollars for something that can easily be posted on Instagram for free in a sixty-second video.

James also stands out from the rest because of his willingness to work with all artists, not just those that can bring him profit through royalties.

De Novo Agency is a full-service entertainment agency that works on behalf of its clients to promote and represent their interests. Basically, they offer everything that a record label does without making artists give up 50% of their future income.
