How To Disrupt Your Industry – Frederick Achom

Disruption of an industry is a big deal for those who do it successfully. If you aspire to make your mark in the world of business you must not solely focus on the bottom line but on innovation. Although disrupting an industry is a noble goal to pursue, it usually comes with ridicule and dismiss from counterparts within your field until you actually succeed. 

This article is not advising you to compete with the likes of Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk, but it encourages you to develop the mindset of allowing your start-up to stand out from the crowd by doing things differently and thinking outside the box. 

At Rosemont Group Capital, one of our criteria for investing in start-ups is identifying a company’s clear USP, which drastically increases chances of success. 

Below are a few tips on how I believe any founder can disrupt their industry and achieve maximum growth:

1. Know your industry

You should not take the industry at face value. You need to do a thorough research in order to know how everything works in the business you are in. This step may require you to attend conferences, networking events, subscribing to trade magazines and to even allocate extra hours searching for relevant information on Google. 

To remain in the forefront of your industry, it’s important to make it a habit to find out if the customers are satisfied and if they are well pleased with the products and services in the market. Putting this routine into practice can give you the edge to innovate, find gaps in the market and be steps ahead of your competitors.  

2. Know who you are up against

Compete with the best. No matter how small or big your company is, it’s important to identify the companies within your field playing at the optimal level. This will push you to raise your standards and compete at the highest level. 

This is a common practice for Fortune 500 companies hence why you have the likes of Samsung and Apple competing for larger market share especially in the areas of selling smart phones. 

3. Figure out the problems and challenges

Find out the root cause of the problems and challenges in the industry and dedicate a large portion of your working hours to finding solutions. A first practical step to move in this direction is to write a list of problems you face in your business and questions you needs answers to, from marketing, branding to the logistical function of running your enterprise. 

Many successful companies got their first break as a result of solving a problem that was facing other companies in their niche.

4. Bring everyone on board

Behind every successful business is a successful team. The founder of Wal-Mart Sam Walton said it best, “Individuals don’t win; teams do.” If you want to increase your chances of building a cutting edge business you must build a team of experts especially to fill in the area of your weaknesses. 

It’s not enough to employ a team but to ensure that they are placing their full capacity on contributing to the growth of company. Incentivize your team to input ideas for achieving the vision of your business. Companies such as Facebook and Google adopt this philosophy encouraging their employees not to solely fulfill the job role but to come up with innovative ideas on how the company can improve. 

Make sure you bring everyone on board.

5. Think like a customer 

What your customers think about your firm really matters. They are the foundation of your success. You can create as many products as you possibly can but if you don’t have customers, you don’t have a business. Prioritize their needs and interact with them so that you can know if everything is going in the right direction and according to plan. They are the backbone of any business.  Moreover, It is quite difficult to know how successful you are or what is ailing your firm from the inside. 

6. Stay innovative

Use creative ideas to market your business and stand out as a brand. Many firms now market their products online especially through social media unlike in the past when they used print media mostly. Innovation should not be a one-time thing. It should be continuous so that you can continue improving your business.

The most important advice I can give you is to be alert and stay focused on your goal. If you follow those steps keenly, there is no doubt your product or service will be a game changer in your industry. Disrupt it, stay innovative and let nothing stop you.

Meet Lanfranco Pescante: The Entrepreneur That’s Taking Over Florida’s Restaurant and Nightlife Scene

Lanfranco Pescante is one of the two owners and managing partners of the Nocturnal Hospitality Group. At only thirty-three years old, Mr. Pescante has a vast Nightclub and restaurant hospitality background, stemming back to his childhood in Italy where he moved from at age seventeen, alone, to follow the American dream. 

Mr. Pescante began his journey as a dishwasher and worked his way up the ladder. He worked every single position in a restaurant and bar, moving up faster than anyone else in the industry. Along with his long time best friend David Anderson, he created the company that revolutionized events in central Florida and has produced countless events with artists ranging from Nelly to Avicii, in accordance with upholding profitable day to day venue operations. 

His fairy tale success story began with 1000+ guest house parties, dating back to the early 2000’s. They became so popular and organized with bartenders, valet, security that they had more people than clubs.

“Eventually, the club owners in town noticed and hired us. We rapidly progressed into bar and club promotions and further grew to large scale concert production and developing & managing bar-centric hospitality concepts. We brought numerous entertainers and celebrities to central Florida, huge renowned artists ranging from Avicii to Nelly. Then eventually we wanted to open our own concept and that is where the dream of Franklin Manor began,” he recalls. 

From the very start, Mr. Pescante has always loved the industry, and knew that he wanted to form a part of it.

“From the early days night clubs were my getaway. I LOVE PEOPLE, I love the night life, I love the thrill of it, I love everything about it. I love seeing guests happy enjoying their time at my venues, or when I used to throw concerts seeing 5000 people all cheering for their favorite artist and forgetting, for a short period of time, their troubles, sadness, and daily life problems,” he shares.

What sets Mr. Pescante apart are his people skills and ability to manage. He excels in the financial and operations side of the business, and is an ideal figure head of the company. People love him because he is genuine and humble and never forgets where he came from. He also is a strong leader for his team, willing to jump in for any position, if needed. He leads by example and rolls up his sleeves when the time is needed. But what sets him apart the most, is that no matter what, he doesn’t give up.

“I just don’t know how to give up, no matter if it is a huge business deal or a small chore I don’t know how to give up or lose, never have never will. I am relentless in accomplishing goals whether personal or business wise,” he says.

Mr. Pescante has the following to say, “Ever since I was a kid, I always wanted to be the best at everything I did. I always had visions of grandeur, like I mentioned many times throughout this interview, I truly love to see others happy, its my biggest trait so I’d like people to remember me for always being the guy that brought a bunch of cool places to their town, who always threw the most insane best events/parties in town, and the guy that never gave up when everyone thought he couldn’t do it. But honestly, it would be great to be known as a huge heart and someone that helped Tampa bay grow to a big city”.

He currently has two more top-notch projects opening in early 2020.

 “An Asian fusion restaurant called Shibui opening in downtown Tampa & La Pergola an Italian high end restaurant opening in downtown St. Pete. I am also opening the first ever celebrity chef driven event and wedding venue in USA. Lately, my thrill has switched to creating new concepts for people to enjoy, the best part about it is transforming a dream on paper to the opening day when it actually opens,” he says.

Mr. Pescante is the definition of a leader. He has led himself and those around him to success through the widely successful Nocturnal Hospitality Group. He fought relentlessly for his American dream, and without ever giving up, made it happen.

From Subtle Beginnings to Multimillion-Dollar Guests, Here’s The Story Of Podcaster, Rom Raviv

Rom Raviv is a nineteen-year-old entrepreneur from Long Island, New York. Ever since Rom was little, he’s felt indifferent about the current educational system.

Rom knew that he wouldn’t fit into the traditional 9-5 class, and he was eager to do something about this. 

As Rom grew, he set his sights on passive income and entrepreneurship; most kids his age were focused on high school popularity.

Today, Rom is the founder of the Spreading Success Podcast and a podcast editing agency called Podblade. 

Subtle beginnings

Some time ago, Rom attended a business and networking event named Breakthru. At the event, Rom met a lot of like-minded individuals. And one of these individuals was veteran Podcaster Casey Adams.

Casey introduced Rom to the idea of Podcasting, and on that same day, Rom ordered a microphone to start up his podcast. 

Once the mic was delivered, Rom reached out to individuals on Instagram who ran podcasts and asked them a lot of questions. 

This helped him amass information on podcasting. Enough for him to properly start his podcast. 

For newbies, Rom recommends that after you buy all your gear, you should anchor and set up all of the criteria on the site. This will significantly reduce the stress you might experience long-term.

Reaching out 

For most podcast hosts, reaching out to potential podcast guests is a problem. If you’re experiencing this difficulty, Rom suggests you try Instagram Direct Message. 

He also explains that you should try to be as unique and genuine as possible. You could send a voice note or perhaps a video message, anything to grab the guest’s attention and land him on your show.

It is also essential to leverage the guests you’ve had on your show to land more guests. Use your list of guests as some social proof.

Having Mentors 

Casey Adams was the number one catalyst for Rom. That little discussion they had at the Event helped him realize the endless opportunities podcasting provides, for example, monetization and leveraging of your guest’s audience.

Apart from Casey, renowned entrepreneurs Gary Vaynerchuk and Andy Frisella have also influenced Rom’s live positively. He makes sure he listens to their podcast consistently.

Overcoming setbacks

We’ve all faced problems before, and most of us have found ways to solve them, some ways better than the others. 

The only problem Rom faced was the fear of speaking with the guest. Sometimes he would have to reschedule because he was scared. 

Rom got over this by being consistent and realizing that if something went wrong during a session, he could always re-record or re-schedule; Guests won’t react as harshly as you imagine.
