Interview With Tal Maimon The CEO That’s Disrupting The Luxury Rental Business In L.A.

I had the pleasure of interviewing 33-year-old Tal Maimon, CEO of Maimon Luxury Rentals and Concierge services. He currently lives in Los Angeles taking over the luxury rental business. I wanted to learn more about this business and the lessons he had for entrepreneurs who might be interested as well. Here’s what he had to say:

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you give us a look into your background story and how you got started in the Luxury Rental Business?

Tal: At age 23 I completed my service in the Israeli Navy and decided to move to united states. I worked as a waiter for the first year and slowly began to set my sights on a position that was more financially stable. After that I worked in construction to gradually build my knowledge on how to build a home, from cost of materials and goods to financing. I really enjoyed my work however, I had always felt that my interest’s were in real-estate. During my work in construction I took the opportunity to invest in a solar company which I am currently a partner at. By this time in my life I was also a nightclub owner and partner in a production company.

The lessons I have learned during this process have played a huge role in my success. The people I have met along the way have been so inspirational and have really shown me that with dedication and hard work anything is possible.

It’s sort of full circle for me that I’ve ended up where I am today. Growing up my father was in real estate and I remember him always pushing us to pursue a career in real estate as well. In 2017 I decided to take the initiative and combine all the connections I have made over the years with clients, realtors and homeowners and provide a luxury service for high end clientele. By 2018 it was apparent that I needed to expand my business since the demand for this specific kind of luxury services was high. I got in touch with every homeowner I knew and slowly started to expand my listings. It’s been a fast growth but that’s not to say that hard work hasn’t been done. On the contrary I have spent countless hours going over details and contracts with both home owners and the clients to insure all parties are satisfied. Every job, lesson and hardship I have had has fully prepared me for the position I currently have. I really enjoy what I do and that to me is a blessing in itself.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started your company? 

Tal: Once I had an individual contact me regarding a birthday for their 75 year old grandmother. They had given me the list of the attendees and what I assumed was the correct number of guests. It sounded like a great gathering with friends and loved ones. We also had a mutual friend so to me it sounded like a great deal and I agreed not to take a big deposit. I knew that both the homeowners and the clients would be happy with the services that I was providing. 

So, I went ahead and verified the booking and received the payment and all was well. Little to my knowledge the house I had just rented out was being used for a party of 100+ people who were parked all over, blocking homes and driveways, and creating an overall disturbance, not to mention breaching a contract they had signed. Needless to say I was left to deal with the aftermath of police officers, tow trucks, not to mention all the damage that was done. That day I learned a very important lesson. To protect myself, homeowners and clients because at the end of the day, this business works best with long term relationships and commitments.

What inspired you to go after the luxury renting Industry?

Tal: I wasn’t born into a luxurious life style but growing up I always knew that I wanted to have more. It just so happened that my father’s advice along with my connections gave me a perfect platform to launch Maimons Group.

What has been the biggest challenge and, on the flip side, the biggest reward of starting the Maimons Group?

Tal: The biggest challenge was transitioning from nightlife to luxury services. Of course, it’s a completely different clientele and of course, we all know how much doubt there is with starting a new business. But I truly believe that if you aim for perfection and set high standards for your own performance, then you will succeed

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? What lesson did you learn from them?

Tal: Adrian, who has been my friend for over 10 years was the one who introduced me to this market and really showed me the ins and out of what it takes to have a successful rental company business. It is because of him that I used my connections in the city and applied it to this business. An I am immensely thankful for him. It’s a blessing to be around people who support you and help you to reach your end goals.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Tal: The best advice would have to be the one my father gave me. I remember his words vividly.

“Pick your partners wisely, everything is good when its good and everything is bad when is bad. to get in to partnership or a relationship is easy, to finish them is where it gets hard and ugly.”

What were the biggest entrepreneurship lessons you learned from your experience with Maimons Group?

  1. The biggest lesson for me has been to deal with homeowners and clients directly. This way you’re minimizing misunderstandings and you’re also building a connection that will essentially bring you returning clients.
  2. Always make sure to have the payment and deposit before the client checks in. In this way you’re protecting the homeowners and yourself. So many people in this city bypass this very basic step and end up with damaged property and extended stays that will never be paid for. My goal has always been to protect the homeowner and provide a nice experience for the client.

An online platform from the most inspiring Jake Havron is taking the world by storm

Online training has always been a time saving, and effective way, in staying fit and keeping positive. The journey of Jake Havron has been very fascinating to say the least.

Growing up in Hawaii, Jake had its downfalls as he was the stand out, tall white kid. He also was quite chubby growing up which led to other kids picking on him growing up. Not being confident, and being bullied every now and then, he chose to fight it out by devoting his time to sports and working out.

He ended up receiving a full-scale scholarship for Basketball and nursing to the University of Jamestown. The focus shifted to basketball and schooling. He became passionate about sports and balanced his nursing education through very supporting professors.

He shaped up his degree and the body together, and balanced life as we know it. He came back to Maui with an intention to take a break before starting his professional journey. This break got him into bodybuilding competition. He succeeded by receiving the 2nd place in his class.

The got his followers keen on knowing more about his training aspect, and that’s how his journey as an online trainer began. He also found an opportunity to play for the Hawaii Pro Basketball team and signed a contract to play for them in the October of 2017.

Sadly, the coach bailed 14 days before the event and he was devastated. This was a low blow but also a blessing in disguise. He started a journey of trying to take people out of the hospital through training them online rather than getting them into the hospital.

He poured his heart and soul in every single client and this passion became a beautiful profession for this young, and talented online trainer. Within 90 days, he was able to come across and train Sarah Foley, who ended up becoming Ms. Wheelchair Hawaii.

The result was awe-inspiring, and this compelled him to make this a full-time training program and coaching people throughout the nation. Jake and Sarah called it the disability Icon program. His main inspiration in life in this entrepreneurship journey was the idea that “I can shape my own life”.

He never wanted to be bound to the chains of the dream limiting 9-5 routine jobs. His inclination towards impacting others’ life made his journey even more exciting. He is very grateful for Sterling Griffin, Ceo of Life Changer Academy, who literally taught him how to be a full-time online trainer, and leave a positive impression on his clients.

Online training through a holistic approach has transformed the lives of numerous people across the nation. The client base has been growing ever since, and passionate professional success is just a start to reshape the way people look at physical and mental health.

Learn How This 25 year-old Entrepreneur Is Escaping the 9-5 Rat Race

The demand for digital brand marketing continues to rise as everything business continues to shift to the technological world. Wayne Gethers, a kid who used to film high school basketball games from his iPhone, now uses his expertise videographer abilities to promote top high school, collegiate, and professional athletes nation-wide as well as the colleges and organizations they are a part of. While he mainly works with athletes, Gethers also provides his services to anyone in any industry that needs help promoting themselves or their brand.

 

Hey Wayne, thanks so much for the interview! Tell us about yourself and how you got into filming.

Wayne Gethers: Growing up, I loved basketball. My high school’s team was very good and I was just your average ball player. I also had several knee surgeries before high school even started, so going into my freshman year, I decided not to play. I still wanted to find another way to be involved so that’s when I turned to filming…. I thought doing film for the team was as close as I could get to basketball without actually having to play, so I decided to give it a go. I’ve been doing some sort of filming ever since…. I love helping others and filming allows me to do that in a unique and creative way. There is nothing more gratifying than receiving emails and text messages from the families of athletes I’ve filmed saying the video I made for their kid helped earn them a collegiate scholarship.

 

That’s awesome Wayne! Who have you been able to work with over the years?

Wayne Gethers: Over the years, I’ve personally worked with over 300 high school kids including Shareef O’neal, Geo Baker, and Kellan Grady, who now all play for UCLA, Rutgers University, and Davidson University, respectively. I also currently have my own production called LW Productions where I make highlight reels for any athlete trying to get his or her name out there…. I’ve worked with and filmed a number of NBA players, Trae Young, Bobby Portis, Moe Wagner, etc…, and WNBA players as well, Brittney Griner, Candace Parker, Skylar Diggins, and Maya Moore.

Wow! That’s quite the track record. What do you have in store for the future?

Wayne Gethers: Although working with top athletes around the world is a dream come true, I am actually looking to use skills behind the camera to help more than just athletes. This summer I am going to Atlanta to help film a WNBA documentary, but I also have a volleyball company and trucking company who want my help in promoting their brands. With all the experience I have filming and promoting top athletes and the major organizations they are a part of, I can provide anyone in any industry help in getting their name out there and getting noticed.

 

Is there anyone who are you are particularly grateful for and can you attribute some of your success to?

Wayne Gethers: There are two people – family friend, Geo Rodriguez, and close friend, Maurice Taylor. Early on in my career, it was tough finding work. Both Maurice and Geo not only hooked me up with two of my first serious filming jobs, but also drove me whenever and wherever I needed to go to film when I needed a ride. They were the only ones that truly believed in me at the time and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them in my corner.

 

What’s the biggest piece of advice you wish someone told you when you first started out as a videographer?

Wayne Gethers: Never get content. When I became one of the main filmers in the massachusetts, it got to my head a little and I didn’t try and improve. New editing techniques and different styles of filming started to emerge and people began to catch up to me because I wasn’t looking to improve. Fortunately, I was able to step up my game and not fall behind. Things are always changing and being improved, especially in the film industry. There is always more you can learn.

 

As an entrepreneur who has established himself, what are 5 tips you can offer up to the next generation of entrepreneurs?

 

Make sacrifices. Nothing is immediate.

You are going to have those late nights and those early mornings. Trust me they are worth it. Success doesn’t come overnight, and it won’t come at all if you’re not willing to make sacrifices.

Network wherever you go.

You never know who knows who in this world. Always be looking to connect with others and get your name out there.

Find your passion.

It’s not all about the money. As they say, “if you do what you love you’ll never work a day in your life.” Figure out what your passion is, work at it, and the results will come.

Be true to yourself.

You’re going to meet a lot of people in this world and they are all going to have their own opinions on what you should be doing with your life. Stay true to yourself and believe in whatever it is you want to achieve.

Enjoy the little things.

Work your a*s off, but remember not to get too caught up in everything. Remember to take a step back every once and a while and enjoy the people and things around you.

Figure out what you’re passionate about

So many people are stuck doing what they don’t like. Business is tough. And there will be tough times. There will be days when things won’t work out the way you want, and you will feel like giving up. Unless you’re really passionate about what you’re doing, you will just give up. Entrepreneurship requires persistence, and that persistence is often directly derived from passion. If you’re truly passionate about what you’re doing, if you have a burning desire to achieve something, then you will persist through the hard times, and succeed as an entrepreneur.  

Take risks and be willing to fail

Taking risks is absolutely essential in order to win at business. Big goals require big risks. Every successful entrepreneur had to take a risk at one time or another. There will be failure down the road, but failure doesn’t preclude you from ultimately succeeding – in fact, it’s often a necessary step. The best entrepreneurs don’t let the fear of failure prevent them from going for what they believe to be a great idea. Some of those risks won’t pan out, but the ones that do will be the ones that define you.

Hire the right people

Hiring the wrong people is one of the biggest mistakes made by entrepreneurs. You need to bring on employees who have the relevant background and experience. They need to fit into the company culture you are trying to build. They need to be hard-working and flexible, as employees in startups often have to function in multiple roles‎. You must do thorough reference checks on them. Make sure your offer letter says they are “at will” employees and can be terminated at any time. Don’t forget the old quote: “Hire slowly. Fire quickly.”

Ask for advice from other entrepreneurs

Advice from other entrepreneurs and business professionals (such as lawyers and accountants) can prove to be invaluable. Consider putting together an advisory board, and don’t be afraid to motivate members by giving them stock options in your company. Read industry newsletters and startup publications like AllBusiness.com and Entrepreneur.com. Find mentors who can give you advice on hiring, product development, marketing and fundraising‎.

Never stop networking

Networking can land you a new investor, a great employee, a new customer, or a great mentor. Attend industry and startup events. LinkedIn can be a powerful tool to help you network, so make sure both you and your company have profiles on LinkedIn and that you are constantly adding new connections. When someone does a Google search on you, your LinkedIn profile will usually show up at the top of the search results, so be sure you’re making a good first impression.

Just do it

There is never a perfect time to launch a startup, so follow that famous advice and “just do it.” Take the first step to building your business, even if it’s only part time while you still have a paying job‎. Sometimes it’s just important to start. If we keep waiting around for the right moment, success will never come. That right moment is just an illusion. It’s important to act right now.
