How Kev Kouyoumjian Created a Company at Age 17 That Has Sold over a Billion Dollars in Toys

Kev Kouyoumjian is the CEO of World Tech Toys, a world-renowned company that creates toys and brings them to life for children. Kouyoumjian was determined to start up something at age 17 that would help him and his family’s financial situation, at the same time make his dreams come true. He was sure that nothing was going to stop him from getting there. Although he did not go to college, he has been able to achieve what he wanted to achieve and put a smile on the faces of children, including the less fortunate. Single-handedly, he started creating toys and implemented that idea of creating toys to a company that is now making billions.

Kouyoumjian tells us more about how he grew his company, the challenges he underwent, and how Kouyoumjian had to do all he could to make life better for his family.

Kouyoumjian’s Determination to Better His Family’s Life

Kev Kouyoumjian, a highschool student, had no better choice than not to go to college. At the age of 17, he was still a student, but he had to work to help his family out and go to school at the same time. Such life is hectic for a highschool student, but with the kind of determination he had, he was willing to go beyond limits. “I was determined to give my family a better life,” he says.

He had already seen how much his parents were struggling to provide food and shelter for his family. He did this so he could be able to start working on making his life better and come up with a way of helping his parents through their struggles. 

Not going to college and choosing to follow the path of entrepreneurship at that age without mentorship, just learning from his mistakes was not easy for him. He at some point fell, not once, but each time he stood up and continued fighting. He used the stumbling blocks as his strength to keep trying. He was focused on his dreams and without a single dollar in his pocket, and no financial help from anyone or any bank, he finally made his dreams come true by forming World Tech Toys. 

Implementing Skills to Help Society

Kouyoumjian’s idea of creating toys did not require any education. It was a skill he developed by himself. “I was never handed anything and did not even go to school,” he says. That has become a perfect example that anyone who is willing to become an entrepreneur and has a skill does not require a massive amount of capital or going to school to start a company. This young entrepreneur just proved it. It is not about educational levels or the money in your bank accounts. 

It’s also about capability, determination, and willingness to achieve what you want in life. He did not always get what he wanted as other kids did, but that did not stop him.” I was not able to have a Christmas gift every year, but I will continue to do my best to reach as many children as I can for them to have a toy to unwrap for Christmas!” he says. 

Making the Right Decisions and Growing from Nothing to a Multi-Millionaire

Having made many mistakes before doing the right thing, there was that one thing he did, and that was what made him who he is right now and be able to achieve all that he has achieved. “The number one right thing which made me successful was I NEVER gave up no matter what,” he says. Knowing the right thing to do even when the tough gets tougher was one of the enormous steps he made.

He chose to go for something he always wanted to have but did not — toys as Christmas gifts. So creating toys was a perfect idea for him. World Tech Toys is a company that has now turned out to be among the top creating toys company in the world.

Kids love toys, and with no doubts, he was targeting the whole world. He also did not take NO for an answer. He believed that what he was doing was the right thing. Moreover, so it turned out to be. No matter how many deals he got turned down or how many road blocks were in front of him in life, he kept going because NO wasn’t an option.

Now World Tech Toys manufactures toys for billion dollar companies such as Marvel, Disney, Star Wars, Warner Brothers, Lamborghini, Ford and many more. They also sell to big box retailers such as Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Kohl’s, Amazon and many more…

Conclusion

From high school to becoming an entrepreneur at the age of 17 is not easy. Starting from scratch without a single dollar in his pocket to a multi-million company is something only he can explain. Kouyoumjian has been able to cause a positive impact in not only the life of his parents but also for kids all over the world. “I have been able to provide a better life for my family. The Story of a Dreamer Committed to Bettering the World

Fahed Al Essa is a dreamer, innovator, and achiever.  Born and raised in Kuwait, his first exposure to America was under difficult circumstances. During the Gulf War, his family was displaced and sought refuge in California. Many years later he would return to that state under vastly different circumstances in pursuit of an entrepreneurial dream. 

Essa has always enjoyed and prioritized learning, particularly in areas where science can improve people’s lives. After getting his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in molecular biology, he obtained a master’s degree in biotechnology with the ambitious aim of curing cancer.  It was during this time, he began conducting cancer research as an intern at the Wistar Institute. Essa, now later reflects on this experience noting “I was naïve, it wasn’t that easy [to cure cancer], but the research I was doing was part of a lab that contributed to the development of the T-cell therapy, which is the most novel way of treating cancer today”. After spending time in the life sciences branch of healthcare, Essa began to note the opportunities in the provider realm. 

He created a technology company back in Kuwait that would shift Kuwait’s healthcare facilities from paper to electronic means, a move that the healthcare world has since whole-heartedly embraced and now the largest public hospital in Kuwait boasts of its fully electronic operation. However, Essa was slightly ahead of this movement and was unable to gain traction. Many entrepreneurs cite that failing was their best learning experience, and Essa is no different, seeing the lessons and opportunities that stemmed from the experience. A private hospital, Taiba, was excited about his ideas and Essa was hired to the Director of Strategy. During his tenure at Taiba, he designed and implemented the first hybrid operating room in Kuwait, a form that many hospitals have since adopted. 

One of the aspects that strike people the most about Essa is his ardent belief that healthcare should be patient-centric and anyone working in the industry needs to remember that they are treating human beings.  By understanding and empathizing with patients, the business can build the right solutions and profits will follow. 

Essa’s latest venture after completing his MBA and MPH at UC Berkeley is Dala Wellness, a personalized wellness program with a multivitamin subscription focused on patients with chronic pain. The program is based on clinical evidence and engages chronic pain specialists, physical therapists, mindfulness experts, and nutritionists to complement traditional medicine and help patients take back control of their lives. For Dala, healing comes by bridging the mind, body, and soul. It is initially targeting patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, fibromyalgia, crest, and ankylosing spondylosis. His app stands in contrast to traditional healthcare models, treating patients like a partner and valuing their voice. As Essa states “we are also putting the patient in the center and building around them. As such everything we provide them is patient ideated, patient-driven, patient-centered and makes the patient’s life easier”.  He has backed this claim up with extensive market research, interviewing over 50 patients as the app continues in development. 

The mindset of valuing dialogues and incorporating the views of others comes naturally to Essa. He believes that many of the failures of healthcare stem from our own opinions and biases: we only see the world from our point of view. As a result, in Dala he is looking to address patient issues from many different angles, which leads to creative, pragmatic solutions. 

Many of us could learn from Essa’s student attitude and commitment to bettering humanity. For others looking to follow in his footsteps he counsels us to invest in providing the best customer experience and learning from the negative experiences. When it comes to facing adversity, he notes, “We must learn from it, move on and know there are better times around the corner. Be optimistic and trust people until they prove you wrong. Be confident about your future and in everyone else’s”.  Brave comments from a brave man.

Dr. David Fabi on the value of inspiring patients and others through motivational methods

“I want to help the 7.2 billion people of this world!”, exclaims Dr. David Fabi.  “Since it’s an astronomical number, it will always motivate me to do more for the rest of my life.”  And it is this motivated mindset that Dr. Fabi brings to his life, to his career, to his pursuits and to all of his patients.

In today’s fast-paced world, it’s relatively easy to get derailed and frustrated.  Whether it’s professionally or in your personal life, motivation is paramount. It is the reason orthopedic surgeon and motivational speaker Dr. David Fabi believes in the immense value of motivation and inspiration. Motivation is a tool that can be used by many professionals and people, in general, to successfully govern their lives and inspire those around them. It’s very reasonable for people to experience highs and lows in their day to day life. One of the essential things motivational speaking brings to the table is a compelling story that speaks firsthand about the experience with success. Further, people tend to be happier and in turn, look forward to daily challenges with increasing confidence. And the results continue to be multiplicative as stress can be minimized and therefore, the efficiency with all the tasks that work and life demands.  And excellent leaders foster this type of mindset which transcends to those they associate with.  Dr. Fabi fancies himself a multiplier type of leader. “The best leaders are ‘multipliers’ in that they encourage, are receptive and involve all employees and appreciate their improvement.  They don’t ‘diminish’ This type of leadership can culminate in the employee working at 100% of their capacity and sometimes 110% of their capacity in that employees start doing things they didn’t think they were capable of previously!”, says Dr. Fabi.

Motivating Personal and Professional Growth  

Being in a position of leadership consists of more than delegating. As Dr. David Fabi puts it, it involves touching the lives of people by inspiring them to unleash their human potential and helping them find meaning in all that that they do. Dr. David Fabi states, “I believe in the infinity of human potential.  We are all capable, it is just tapping into that potential can be difficult and arduous.  Like most, if not, all important things in life, realizing potential takes hard work, dedication, belief, determination, and grit.”  That’s what excellent leaders and motivational speakers do. There is no single formula to help impart motivation into people. Different people work differently and find inspiration for various things and through various methods. Being an excellent motivational speaker requires one to provide sound advice that mainly focuses on achieving one’s personal and professional goals. It also requires the ability to inspire people to break through barriers and being better than you ever thought possible. As humans, we have shown that through the process of positive affirmation, we tend to feel better about whatever position we are currently in, no matter how critical or hopeless the situation is. Also, positive feedback almost always helps to change our mindset. For instance, Dr. David Fabi reports that with his patients, assuring them that they will be able to be discharged home the same day of a hip or knee replacement lays the foundation for a quicker and smoother recovery.  Drawing on his motivational skills, Dr. Fabi instills in his patients that just like life, 95% of the recovery after surgery and even nonoperative treatments is mental. Oftentimes, this makes the patients excited for their surgery and other treatment options moving forward!  “Conveying this to my patients raises the bar for their postoperative journey in that they can achieve recovery milestones and satisfaction much quicker than most.  And not only do I hope this improves their results but also instills in them confidence that translates to their professional and personal life”, states Dr. Fabi with exuberance.  That sentiment he brings to his patients and others is truly a large step towards helping the 7.2 billion people of this world!
