What’s your backstory?
Did you ever have an origami folding kick as a kid? I did. At the age of 7, I learned how to make little paper baskets from a book. But as you can guess, I had no need for 100 paper baskets.. What I did NEED was a new toy. Consequently, I loaded all of my paper baskets into a bag and headed to the largest marketplace I knew of at the time. The church my dad pastored! I went up and down the aisles selling them at 50 cents a pop. I was making money hand over fist! That is, until my dad found out!
The older I got, the more I realized the value of building my own companies. It was much easier to get the cash I wanted by building out a product or service that people wanted/needed than it was working 40 hours a week at minimum wage. At the age of 16, my biggest success so far was a landscaping company that my cousin and I built. We consistently reinvested our earnings into the company and new equipment. We were actually doing pretty good! There was just one problem. Landscaping is hot and hard work!
I landed my first gig in sales at 16. I went business to business selling advertisement for a start-up weather company. I’ll be honest. I sucked at first. But, I kept at it and kept perfecting the craft. At 18, I went on tour across the country delivering motivational speeches at schools.
At 19, I had lived quite a life.. Travelled the country, worked in five different industries, and helped start three different companies. I was primed and ready for the next adventure. On my way back to my house from my honeymoon, I stopped by my brother’s house to drop off a gag gift I had picked up for him at the beach. After talking for a few minutes, there was a knock at the door. A door-to-door vacuum salesman wanted to show them his system. For some reason, I decided to stay and check it out. Next thing I knew, I had bought a $3,000 vacuum and quit my very comfortable job in the industrial electrical industry in order to pursue “Door to door fame”. Over the next 18 months, my wife and I grew our team to the largest in our area at the time, over seven figures in sales, and #1 Recruiter in the nation. I then decided to change things up and dive into the mortgage industry for a change in scenery. I also decided to start my podcast “ Screw the Side Hustle” to share my journey and the journey of other successful entrepreneurs with the world.
What made you decide to choose this career path?
At some point, I just had a lightbulb moment and realized that I had gotten to the point where I needed to make the decision of whether or not I wanted to be in the vacuum business for the next ten years. The answer was I didn’t. So, I packed up my family in our SUV and drove across the country where my wife and I secured our MLO (Mortgage) licenses. We knew we wanted to be involved in the real estate world, but wanted to be in an environment that we could exercise our sales muscles and maintain a 30-45 day sales cycle instead of the much longer cycle you often see on the realtor side. I also knew that I wanted to begin building an empire and a community. That’s when I made the choice to begin building out “SCREW THE SIDE HUSTLE” . I knew I wanted to knock it out of the park, so I followed one of my favorite quotes. “Only take advice from someone you would trade places with”. I decided to make a very hefty investment for a day in Vegas with Travis Chappell, host of Build Your Network (Top 25 Business Podcast). As they say, the rest is history.
Can you share a story about the funniest mistake you made when you were first starting? Can you tell us what lesson you learned from that?
When I first started in the door-to-door industry is when I really started honing in on my sales skills. I had only been in the business for a couple of months and I decided to take one of my team members out door knocking to “show him how its done” . I hopped out of my truck full of ego and glee, ran up to the door and started knocking. Within a few brief seconds I was met at the door with a shotgun and a very pissed off person holding it. Needless to say, I tucked my tail and ran back to safety all while checking to make sure my underwear was still clean, ha! Moral of the story, no matter how good you are at what you do always be prepared for the unexpected!
What do you think makes your company/personal brand stand out?
Screw the side hustle is a pretty controversial statement. I think that the only way to really get the success you are looking for is to dive “all in” on your venture. So many people want to “play it safe” ,but they will never see the results they want by doing that. One thing I’m not afraid to do is be controversial. I don’t ever create things simply to cause division and piss people off , but one thing I will always do is stay true to myself, my values, and my ideas.
What’s a quote that you live by?
“Not no, but how” So many people stop when they hear no. No means nothing to me. As soon as I hear the word no, gears start turning to figure out how to make it happen.
Daanish Azim – The Phonepreneur
Earlier this week I was able to sit down with Daanish Azim as we discussed his journey and how he got to where he got today.
- Hey Daanish, how old are you, where are you from, and what is it that you do?
I just turned 23 years old last month, I’m from Chicago, IL. I Currently run few online businesses such as an amazon dropshipping store, I’m building up an entrepreneur clothing brand, and I resell phones for profit as well as teach others my methods on how to flip phones for profit.
- What was the first entrepreneurial experience you had that you can remember?
The first entrepreneurial experience I would say I had was buying and reselling phones when I was around 17/18 years old just so I can make some extra income so I can help my dad as he was going through some job issues. But as my first business owner venture, I would say it really began with joining a network marketing company.
- When did you know that you wanted to work for yourself and go a different route?
I knew this at a pretty young age, but it wasn’t really until my last year of high school, that I really started studying the number of people who went to college and the amount of debt they took on for college and how long it took people to actually pay back all their student loans while they were maybe even working at a job they don’t even like. This is when I knew I had to figure out ways to work for myself and take a different route than the majority of people. Also, a quote that really stuck with me that I heard from a successful multi-millionaire was “watch the masses, do the opposite” this quote till this day sticks in my head.
- How did you get into flipping phones?
It honestly happened pretty randomly, I was always amused by the fact of flipping things to make a profit rather than just working a job to make $10/hr(or whatever per $/hr). So as I was one day looking to buy a new phone I found a nice phone at that time called a Moto X for like $150 which I knew was a good deal, so I ended up driving about an hour with my dad to go buy the phone, pretty randomly I decided to list the phone for like $280 on eBay the next day and literally the phone sold within 24 hours of my eBay listing and I was in shock. Imagine I bought a phone for 150 and sold online for 280 without much work or time involved and netted about $100 profit on that one sale, that’s when I knew there was money to be made with flipping phones and that’s how my journey started with this side hustle!
- How have you had so much success in your industry?
In simple terms I was able to figure out how to flip a phone for a profit and by doing it enough times and learning through trial and error I was able to understand this hustle A-Z and by now I’ve been able to buy well over 300-400 phones in the past few years and flip them for a profit and done well over 150k in sales with it while never having a warehouse or shop or anything, just straight out of my house mainly just leveraging my phone to do it, And now I’ve been able to start teaching some students 1on1 and coming out with a course soon to teach people how to resell phones for a profit to make additional income.
- What would you say your 3 core values are?
My 3 core values would have to be integrity, responsibility, and self-improvement.
- How have you leveraged personal branding and social media to grow your business?
I had just opened up a business Instagram page like less than 2 years ago and I’m so glad I did. By posting content and being my true-self and connecting with others it has helped in many ways. I’ve built some great connections with other like-minded individuals, been able to partner up with other people just leveraging my personal brand as well as being able to take on a few students who I’ve never met but just by leveraging and building up my personal brand it has given me so many opportunities and been able to connect and make some great friendships through it.
- What advice would you give a young person looking to get started in entrepreneurship?
One of my biggest advice would be to just get started! Most young people tend to think more and act less. I would also tell them to focus more on self-education and first start by investing into themselves and start to go to any entrepreneurial events they can get a chance to go to and try to find a mentor/coach who is where they’d like to be and is willing to guide and help them.
- What do you want your life to look like in 5 years?
5 years from now my goal is to be totally financially independent, making a positive impact, speaking on stages, helping my parents in any way, having a partner, traveling the world, giving lots back to charities, and just overall being fulfilled while still chasing a bigger dream and vision for myself.
Things to Consider While Calculating Premiums
If you are looking for an insurance policy, you need to look at the factors that insurance companies take into account to calculate the price of the premium. When you pay for the policies for your home, auto or life, you get coverage for the things covered in your policy. The different factors that are based on the price of insurance are the age of the underwriter, the amount of coverage you need, the type of coverage you are looking for, the area where you live, your personal information and other similar factors.
How to Calculate Insurance Premiums?
While calculating the insurance premium. You should keep in mind the following things through which you can low down the cost of your insurance. When calculating the insurance premium, Insurance Company London considers the following factors;
The age of the driver matters much. If you are an experienced driver you can get the insurance of the car at a very reasonable rate. But in case, if you are a young driver then you should be aware that the new drivers have to face the things that keep up the insurance premium. Because young drivers have no experience. Your age is an important factor that the insurance companies take into account to predict the number of years you are going to use the insurance premium. If you are buying health insurance, you need medical care a lot more time if you are older in age compared to the one who is younger. The premium for older people is generally higher while for the younger they are quite cheap. In addition, teenage drivers have to pay more premium prices as there are more chances to face damages because of the accidents.
The type of coverage you want:
While taking the insurance coverage, you should be conscious that what type of insurance coverage suits that meets all your needs and complete the requirements. Generally, insurance companies offer you a lot of options when you are looking for an insurance policy. If you buy basic insurance coverage, the policy you buy will be much cheaper. On the other hand, if you buy comprehensive coverage, your premium would be expensive.
The amount of coverage: your premium price is based on the amount of coverage you buy. If you buy less coverage, your premium would be cheaper. If you buy auto insurance, and your deductible is higher, you have to pay less for the premium no matter what amount of coverage you buy.
While picking the insurance, you need to give all the personal information to the insurer. When you are shopping for an insurance policy, Insurance company London consider the factors like driving record, your yearly claims, age, gender, marital status, hobbies, the area you are living in, lifestyle, your health, medical history of your family, smoking status, etc.
How You Can Lower Your Insurance Premiums?
Insurance agencies are about assessing and managing the risks. The higher the hazard, the higher the premiums. In any case, there are approaches to bring down your premiums.
One way is to bundle your protection. For instance, on the off chance that you have your auto, home, and life coverage strategies with one organization, you’ll likely fit the bill for a markdown.
Obviously, you can set aside cash in the event that you lessen your inclusion (e.g., increase your deductible); be that as it may, that is not constantly a decent decision. Consider your circumstance and the probability that you’ll utilize the approach before settling on any choices.
There are different approaches to save money on your premiums, as well, yet they take even more responsibility. For instance, most states charge smokers up to 50% more than non-smokers for health insurance policies. That means if you’re a smoker paying $600 a month for health insurance, you could bring that down to $400 if you quit smoking.
For example; you may qualify for lower auto insurance rates if you improve your credit score. That’s because people with lower credit scores are, statistically speaking, more likely to be in an accident.
